History of Salsacalientita
Did You Know Salsa Calientita was 19 years old in January 2019.
How is that you may ask……
Well it all started in December 1999 when Clayton and Debbie the Husband and Wife team, Founders and Directors of Salsa Calientita went to their
regular Salsa Clubs’ Christmas Party. Shortly into the party it became clear to them that the Promoter had no intentions to continue into the New Year.
This upset their party mood, so Clayton spoke to the Promoter pleading for him to reconsider and not to close their Salsa Club. The Promoter responded by basically saying “If you really want to keep it, have it.” “OK” they replied just glad that it would still be there in the New Year They had no idea of the magnitude of the task that they had undertaken or the first idea what to do with it.
After going away, thinking about it and consulting other promoters, both Clayton and Debbie decided that the best thing to do to keep things on track, was to move forward with the consultation of resident teachers and promoters Sai and Deanne of Salsa Connexion. With whom they later formed a working partnership.
With no Name to go by in January 2000 it all began…..
…… Some may even remember Colleen Daniels as being the person on the door accepting payment for classes and club. This with family members being involved still continues usually it starts by taking the money at the door. Many now also dance and Teach Salsa Classes.
So January 2000 is when Salsa Calientita was officially born at The Royal British Legion in Maidenhead. However it was only Christened with the name in April 2002 as the new Salsa Club was started in Stoke Poges originally at Stoke Place Conference Centre. Where we started as with family members Clayton teaching beginners, Colleen teaching Imporvers and Debbie teaching Intermediates. This Club continued to grow, mainly thanks to so many of you who have started and remained supporting us over the years, so a big thank you to all of you. We moved in 2005 to The Polish Club, due to Stoke Place Conference Centre, which had been taken over by new management and was being refurbished. Here Salsa Calientita continued to grow, and with your support we ran other successful events.
We have been at Slough Cricket Club, Upton Court Park, Upton Court Road, Slough, Berkshire, SL3 7LT. Every Tuesday since April 2013.
The name Salsa Calientita came from a good friend of Clayton’s Rachael Claxton, and the Website was created and if necessary continues to be supported by another of Clay’s good friends Lee Williams, a big thank you to both of you for your part in Salsa Calientita’s success.
One of the longest running and most experienced Salsa Companies: Still keeping with the times to deliver quality fun Salsa lessons to you all.
